Rather than a single site, this color poster gathers the pueblos of the Southwest under one banner, with cactus among its listed subjects to signal the desert setting. It was produced in the 1930s for the National Park Service's public relations work, when the agency used posters to encourage travelers to visit the parks and monuments under its care. The multistory adobe and stone villages of the region, built by the ancestors of today's Pueblo peoples, were among the attractions it hoped viewers would associate with a trip west.
