Where many park posters of the period celebrate summer hiking and camping, this one turns to winter, with Dorothy Waugh's color silkscreen inviting Americans to ski and enjoy snow sports in national and state parks. Printed in Washington by the Government Printing Office, it was part of the National Park Service's public relations effort during the Depression, when federal agencies used posters to draw people to public lands. Silkscreen, a technique the WPA poster program relied on, allowed artists to use bold flat areas of color that were affordable to reproduce in quantity.
