Most park posters of the period celebrate summer, but this one makes the case for winter. Its title lists skiing, skating, sliding, and sleighing as reasons to visit national and state parks in the cold months. Artist Dorothy Waugh designed the color poster, and the U.S. Government Printing Office issued it in Washington in 1930. The National Park Service was still building its public image then, and it was encouraging Americans to see the parks as year-round destinations. The poster reflects that effort to broaden the parks' appeal beyond the summer tourist season.
