Mulberry, a small town in Clinton County in west-central Indiana, was in 1910 a trading place for the farms that surrounded it. Corn, wheat, and livestock moved through its grain elevators and freight yards, and the town's fortunes depended on the rail lines that connected it to larger markets. Like many Indiana communities of the period, Mulberry was balancing its rural roots against the pull of towns and cities, where factories and newer roads were drawing people and money. Its residents would have known the place as a market and meeting point, where Saturday trips to town, church gatherings, and the arrival of the train shaped daily life. The panoramic view records a community at the height of the horse-and-rail era, just before automobiles began to change how Hoosiers traveled.
