Pasadena's 1936 poster advertises a staging of Oscar Straus's operetta *The Chocolate Soldier*, known in German as *Der tapfere Soldat*, and it was sponsored by the United Service Clubs of Pasadena alongside the Federal Music Project. The Federal Music Project, one arm of the Works Progress Administration, hired musicians, singers, and stage workers during the Depression and presented concerts and light operas to local audiences. Straus's work, which premiered in Vienna in 1908 and drew loosely on Shaw's *Arms and the Man*, was a popular choice for such productions. The silkscreen print is a rare local example of the WPA's theater publicity.
