This picture shows a house at No. 33 Center Street in Detroit, Michigan, one of the residential addresses the Detroit Publishing Company recorded around 1900 to 1910. The firm was known for broad catalogs of American cities, towns, and scenery, and its dwelling views offer a glimpse of everyday architecture from that era. This example is an 8 by 10 inch glass dry plate negative, and its records note a 1949 gift from the State Historical Society of Colorado before the plate reached the Library of Congress. Plates like this preserve ordinary streets alongside famous landmarks.
