A bedroom in the Detroit residence of Mrs. H.C. Parke is the particular subject here, an interior that stands out in a collection better known for street scenes and landscapes. Two variant glass negatives of the view, each 8 by 10 inches, survive from the years between 1900 and 1910. The Detroit Publishing Company, which documented cities and regions across the country in that period, made such records of American places and people, and this room offers a look at the domestic furnishings of the era. The negatives came to the Library of Congress as a 1949 gift from the State Historical Society of Colorado.
