This glass negative shows a bedroom in the residence of Mrs. H.C. Parke in Detroit, a rare view of a private interior among the city scenes the Detroit Publishing Company produced. The company, active from the 1890s into the 1920s, was best known for its views of streets, buildings, and landscapes, so its interiors offer a glimpse of domestic life that was not often recorded. The record does not say more about Mrs. Parke or the household, but the picture still shows how a well-to-do Detroit home of the early 1900s was arranged, with its furniture, textiles, and light.
