Pianos fill this interior, which was the professionals' room of the Whitney Warner Publishing Company, a Detroit firm that sold sheet music. Rooms like this were where singers, performers and touring musicians could sit at an instrument and try out new songs before buying copies. The Detroit Publishing Company, which made the image between about 1900 and 1905, is better known for street scenes and city views, so this interior records a working trade rather than a landmark. The 8 by 10 inch glass negative keeps the room's furnishings and layout in sharp detail.
