The billiard room at the Buhl residence on Iroquois Avenue in Detroit is the detail that sets this view apart from the company's many street scenes and civic buildings. The record says the house may belong to Arthur Hiram Buhl, though that attribution is uncertain. Around the turn of the twentieth century, Detroit's growing fortunes, especially from manufacturing, paid for lavish interiors like this one, where billiards was a common pastime for wealthy households. The Detroit Publishing Company made this glass negative for its catalog of American places, and it reached the State Historical Society of Colorado as a gift in 1949.
