Set at the edge of Thuringia's neighboring region in Coburg, this view shows the Ehrenburg Palace, the residence of the dukes of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha. The palace grew over several centuries from a Renaissance core, and its ducal household was closely tied to the wider royal houses of Europe. This print comes from the photochrom process, a early color method in which a black-and-white photograph was transferred to multiple lithographic stones, one per color, to produce a painted-looking image. The Detroit Publishing Company later sold such prints in the United States, and this one is recorded in its 1905 catalog.
