This photochrom shows Blankenburg, a small town in Thuringia, as seen from the Grossvater, the vantage point named in the title. Photochrom was a Swiss process that printed color views from hand-tinted photographic plates, and the Detroit Publishing Company sold American rights to these images and offered them in its catalogues, including the 1905 edition cited here. Dated between about 1890 and 1900, the view captures a German town in the years before the First World War, when such prints were popular souvenirs of travel.
