A banqueting hall in Bad Cannstatt, the Württemberg spa town now part of Stuttgart, is the subject here, a room built for the large dinners and gatherings that visitors to the mineral springs enjoyed. The town's waters have drawn bathers since Roman times, and by the 1890s its hotels and halls were busy with travelers. The image was made by the photochrom process, which combined a photograph with a series of lithographic stones to add color, and it was issued by the Detroit Publishing Company, whose catalog number 8700 marks it as one of many German views sold to American buyers.
