The view looks at the Town Hall of Breslau, the Silesian city now called Wrocław in Poland, from its eastern side. The building is a Gothic structure that grew over several centuries and anchors the city's central market square. This hand-colored photochrom was made in the 1890s, when the process, developed in Switzerland, produced vivid color reproductions of European landmarks. It appears in the Detroit Publishing Company's 1905 catalog of German views, which sold such prints to American audiences.
