Ann Arbor's medical school occupied older quarters on the university grounds before newer facilities went up in the early twentieth century, and this glass negative records one of those earlier buildings as it looked around 1900 to 1906. The Detroit Publishing Company, which sold views of American towns, campuses and scenery, made the picture as part of its large catalog of photographs. Its 8 by 10 inch glass plate was the standard large-format negative of the period, which gave the company crisp detail for reproduction. Such views now help researchers trace how the university's campus and its medical training changed during those years.
