A woman preparing to cast her first vote is the unusual center of this 1898 lithograph, which advertised Charles Hale Hoyt's comedy *A Contented Woman*. Hoyt was a prolific American playwright known for lively farces, and the play's title and this image point to the suffrage debates of the 1890s, when women's voting rights were widely argued in newspapers and on stage. The poster was printed in color in Cincinnati by the Russell-Morgan Print Company, and its bright, eye-catching style was typical of theater advertising of the period.
