The caption on this poster poses the question at its center: "Why shouldn't we vote?" Charles Hale Hoyt, the playwright named in the record, wrote popular comic plays that often poked fun at the social debates of his day, and women's suffrage was a hotly contested issue in 1898. The sheet was printed in Cincinnati by the U.S. Printing Co. and Russell-Morgan Print, using black-and-white lithography typical of the touring-show posters of the period. Its blunt, ironic tagline shows how theater advertising of the era used topical politics to draw audiences.
