Hoyts theater in New York is the venue named on this 1900 poster for *A Brass Monkey*, a satire on superstition. Its author, Charles Hale Hoyt, was a playwright known for broad, fast-moving farces, and he died in 1900, the year this sheet was issued. The lithograph was printed by Russell-Morgan of Cincinnati and New York, and its caption, "I want my hat!", hints at the frantic comic business the show relied on. The black-and-white design shows how theater advertising was made at the time.
