Crazy Horse, the Oglala war leader, rides with his band from Camp Sheridan toward the Red Cloud Agency, where he surrendered to General George Crook on May 6, 1877. The scene, drawn from sketches by Hottes, appeared as a wood engraving in *Frank Leslie's Illustrated Newspaper* that June, as the Lakota were being moved onto reservations. Travois, the sled-like frames dragged by horses to carry belongings, trail behind the riders, showing how whole households traveled together. Crazy Horse was killed at Camp Robinson that September.
