The White-Gravenor building at Georgetown University, the Jesuit college in northwest Washington, was under construction when this view was taken in October 1932. The National Photo Company, a commercial studio that recorded the capital's streets, public buildings and campus life in the early twentieth century, made the image, and its collection now offers a broad picture of Washington between the wars. Because the title came from information added later, the building's details should be checked against other sources. Faint streaks and blemishes on the negative come from age and natural breakdown of its coating.
