At the Columbia theater in San Francisco, this 1936 silkscreen poster advertises a three-act comedy, *Censored*, written by Conrad Seiler. The Federal theater Project, a branch of the Works Progress Administration, sponsored the production. Created in 1935 to put theater workers back to work during the Depression, the project staged plays across the country, and its subject headings tie this comedy to the decade's interest in censorship. The WPA art projects used silkscreen to make inexpensive, bold posters for public spaces, and this one shows that approach in its color and lettering.
