President Grover Cleveland is shown passing through a line of assembled vessels in a launch on his way to Bedloe's Island for the unveiling of the Statue of Liberty on October 28, 1886. Four sailors stand in the foreground, with the statue rising in the background. The wood engraving ran in *Frank Leslie's Illustrated Newspaper* in early November that year, and it captures the naval pageantry that marked the French gift to the American people.
