The Thomas Jefferson Memorial is the particular subject here, shown with cherry trees in bloom along the Tidal Basin, the detail that sets this view apart from other pictures of the monument. The memorial was dedicated in 1943, and by the mid-1940s its white marble rotunda had become a fixed part of the capital's waterfront. The cherry trees were a gift from Japan in 1912, and their spring blossoms drew crowds to the Tidal Basin each year.
