Catalogued simply as "Monument" and dated March 18, 1921, this glass negative shows a structure whose identity is unverified, since the title came from information the studio wrote on the negative or its sleeve. The National Photo Company, a commercial firm active in Washington, D.C., produced large numbers of views of the city's monuments, buildings and streets in the early twentieth century, and this negative belongs to that body of work. Herbert A. French gave it to the Library of Congress in 1947. The glass may show streaks and blemishes from natural deterioration of its original coating.
