Earl Hamilton is shown standing in his St. Louis Browns uniform, turned to the left, in this 1914 portrait. Hamilton, born in 1891, was a pitcher in the American League during the 1910s, when the Browns were one of the league's struggling franchises. The photograph comes from the George Grantham Bain Collection, a large body of news photographs made by a New York agency that supplied pictures to newspapers. Its posed, full-length format reflects how teams and players were often photographed for publication in that period.
