Tom Seaton, a pitcher who worked for the Federal League's Brooklyn club in 1914, stands facing the camera in his uniform in this portrait. The Federal League was an upstart major league that challenged the established National and American Leagues for players and fans during those years, and its New York-area teams drew crowds with a wave of big-name signings. The picture comes from the George Grantham Bain Collection, a large body of news photographs from the 1910s, and its 1914 date was established by researchers at the Society for American Baseball Research.
