A bugle call to the troops is the subject of this lithograph, a print of a Union soldier made around 1863, in the middle of the Civil War. It reproduces a painting by the Boston artist William Morris Hunt, who had studied with the French painter Jean-François Millet, and it was printed in Boston by D.C. Fabronius. Printed images like this one carried scenes of Union soldiers into homes and offices, where many civilians followed the war mainly through newspapers and pictures.
