McClellan is the Man" puts a candidate's name directly in its title, which marks it as partisan campaign art. George B. McClellan had led the Union Army of the Potomac until President Lincoln removed him in late 1862, and in 1864 he was the Democratic nominee running against Lincoln for the presidency. The lithograph is credited to Henry Cromwell and Fabronius, printed by F.N. Carter of Boston, and published by G.D. Russell & Co. Its inclusion in the Library of Congress's 2009 Lincoln bicentennial exhibition, "With Malice Toward None," reflects how such prints document the political contest of that wartime election.
