Few details survive about the exhibition itself, but this view is set in a Park Avenue hotel, a location that drew travelers, society events, and trade displays in the years before World War I. The 8 by 10 inch glass negative, made between about 1905 and 1915, was the large format commercial photographers preferred for interiors, because its fine detail held up in reproduction. It came from the Detroit Publishing Company, a firm that sold views of American cities, landscapes, and interiors to publishers and travelers, and its plates give a useful record of how New York's public rooms were decorated and used in that period.
