The Murray Hill Hotel stood on Park Avenue between 40th and 41st Streets, on a stretch that was becoming one of Manhattan's more fashionable addresses in the early 1900s, as the avenue's rail corridor was reworked and residential and hotel construction followed. This large glass negative came from the Detroit Publishing Company, a firm known for documenting American cities and landmarks for tourism and promotion. Its record gives the date only as sometime between 1900 and 1910, so the view captures the avenue's streetscape at that time, with the hotel's facade and the surrounding street as they looked before later redevelopment.
