Park Avenue running south from Thirty-sixth Street shows the street's residential character in the years before tall apartment towers filled the avenue. The rows of townhouses lining both sides reflect the appeal of the Murray Hill district to well-to-do New Yorkers in the early twentieth century. The picture survives as an 8 by 10 inch glass dry plate negative made by the Detroit Publishing Company, a firm that sent photographers across the country to record cities, towns and landscapes. Its catalog number and the marking on the negative help place it within that large collection.
