The title credits L.J. Galbreath as both originator and owner of this Boston team, one of the many barnstorming "Bloomer Girls" clubs that toured the country between about 1890 and 1910. The name came from the bloomers, loose knee-length trousers named for Amelia Bloomer, that many of these players wore for ease of movement instead of long skirts. Bloomer Girls teams drew crowds by playing local men's clubs and by offering a novelty that challenged expectations about women in sport. The record does not give further detail on this team's roster or seasons, so the photograph is best read as evidence of how women's baseball was organized and promoted in that era.
