The Law Building at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor appears here as a large glass-plate negative, one of the views the Detroit Publishing Company made of American campuses and towns in the years before 1920. The university's law program dates to 1859, making it one of the older law schools in the country, and by the 1910s its dedicated building was a central part of the campus. The company's photographers worked for a broad market of tourists and institutions, so their views of schools like this one record the built environment of the period as it was presented to the public.
