Ed Killian appears here full length in his Detroit uniform, caught in the act of throwing a ball. He pitched for the Detroit Tigers in the late 1900s, when the club was a regular contender in the American League and built around stars such as Ty Cobb. The print comes from the George Grantham Bain Collection, made by a New York news photo service that supplied pictures to newspapers. Its 1908 date rests on later research by baseball historians rather than on a contemporary caption.
