Set beside the Narenta River in Mostar, Herzegovina, this hotel placed its guests in a town that Austria-Hungary had administered since 1878. Mostar was known for its Ottoman-era stone bridge spanning the river, and the hotel's position near the water offered travelers a view of that older city. The print is a photochrom, a process that transferred a photograph to several lithographic stones and added color by hand. The Detroit Publishing Company sold such views to American buyers, and this one appears in its 1905 catalog of Austro-Hungarian scenes.
