Pleasant View, the Concord, New Hampshire, estate associated with Mary Baker Eddy, founder of Christian Science, is the setting this lithograph is tied to, and the horses in its title put animals at the center of the scene. Estate views like this were common in the 1890s, when printed illustrations let owners and the public see a property's grounds, outbuildings and carriages without visiting in person. The catalog record notes that some of its details come from an unverified caption card, and its subject tags point to carriages and horses, so the print is best read as a glimpse of everyday life on a late nineteenth-century New England country property.
