A young woman guides a team of horses across a field in this engraving, a scene that recalls the fieldwork Antonia Shimerda takes on in Willa Cather's *My Antonia*. W.T. Benda made the plate as an illustration for the novel, and the caption card files it under farms and women. Cather's book, published in 1918, follows Bohemian immigrant families on the Nebraska prairie, where girls and women often worked the land alongside men. The record's 1913 date is unverified, so it is worth checking against the book's printing history.
