Few posters of Mary Pickford were made in Moscow, and this one, printed by Sovkino Lithographs in 1926, shows how Soviet designers reworked a Hollywood star for their own audiences. The catalog marks it with the name Stenberg, which points to the Stenberg brothers, Constructivist artists known for bold, graphic poster work in the 1920s. The record also files the film under impersonation and cross-dressing, themes that drew attention in silent cinema of the period. Pickford, one of the most famous actresses of the era, was then at the height of her international fame.
