This 1989 poster for the Acme Bread Company pairs young girls with bread, the two subjects named in its record. David Lance Goines, a Berkeley printmaker and designer known for illustrated posters made for local businesses, created it as a promotional piece, and he gave it to the Library of Congress in 1993. Acme was founded in Berkeley in 1980 and became known for its sourdough, so the poster offers a window into how a neighborhood bakery and the city's food culture were presented to the public in the late 1980s.
