Built around the Otis Elevator Company's 1923 advertising, this item speaks to builders and property owners at a time when office towers were rising quickly in American cities. The company traced its roots to Elisha Otis, who in 1854 showed a safety brake at the New York Crystal Palace by having a platform stop when its hoisting rope was cut, a demonstration that helped make passenger elevators acceptable in tall buildings. This is a copy photograph made around 1990, so it records a later reproduction of the original advertisement.
