The Yellow Kid, Richard F. Outcault's bald, gap-toothed street urchin, shares this July 1907 page with Buster Brown, Tige the bulldog, and Mary Jane, two of Outcault's later creations. Outcault drew the Yellow Kid from 1895 and later took him to William Randolph Hearst's paper, a move that helped fuel the circulation war that gave "yellow journalism" its name. Buster Brown debuted in 1902, and the crossover of his characters with the older star, framed as a dream, makes this drawing worth a closer look.
