Overhead views of the Umpqua River crossing show how the bridge and its highway approaches meet the estuary's flat terrain. The Oregon coast highway took shape through the 1930s under the state's bridge engineer, Conde McCullough, whose concrete and steel spans along the shoreline became well-known landmarks. This print appeared in a 1939 Public Works Administration survey documenting completed federal projects, part of a broader effort to record New Deal public works architecture. The aerial angle makes it easy to see how the roads, river, and bridge fit into the surrounding landscape.
