Dean Cornwell's 1943 poster shows airborne troops, a parachute theme that sets it apart from the many war-production posters of the period. Issued by the U.S. Army Ordnance Department and printed by the Government Printing Office, it urges factory workers to supply more weapons for the men who go into combat. By 1943, the United States was expanding its arms output, and Ordnance posters like this one tied the courage of soldiers to the daily labor of machinists and assemblers at home. Cornwell, an illustrator known for his large-scale and historical work, brought dramatic color and motion to a message aimed at keeping production rising.
