A frozen-solid date at an incredibly romantic movie is the joke here: a Doonesbury strip in which the narrator is still thawing out his companion. This original drawing is dated November 10, 1970, when Garry Trudeau's strip was new to newspapers and built around college students and their social lives. Trudeau worked in ink, using white-out for corrections and blue pencil for layout notes, marks that show how a strip was prepared before printing. The Library received the drawing as a gift in 1988, so the original art survives alongside the published version.
