A color lithograph from 1917, this poster advertises "United States official films shown here," and its catalog record links the subject to the United States Capitol in Washington, D.C. The timing matters: the United States had entered the First World War that April, and the newly formed Committee on Public Information, led by George Creel, relied on films and posters to explain the war and build public support for it. Printed by the Hegeman Print company in New York, the poster shows how the motion picture industry, still young, had become a channel for wartime communication.
