Few pictures on this board come from the government side of the war, and this title points to the official effort to film it. After the United States entered the conflict in April 1917, the Army Signal Corps and the newly formed Committee on Public Information began producing films that showed American troops, training camps, and home-front mobilization to audiences at home. Because the footage was meant to build morale and support recruitment, it offers a polished, carefully staged view of the war. Today it is valuable both as a record of the period and as an example of how wartime governments used the new medium of motion pictures.
