Eagle Lake is a body of water and a small town in the far north of Maine, in Aroostook County, where the landscape of spruce and fir forest, rivers, and lakes shaped life long before the roads arrived. The region's economy grew around timber, river log drives, and farming, and many of its residents were Franco-American families whose language and customs still mark the area. A picture titled for this lake therefore tends to show more than scenery. It also records a working northern place where the water was both a route for logs and a setting for summer life.
