The title on this glass plate, given as "Lotowana" with a [sic] marking the spelling as recorded, names a vessel rather than a place or person, and the catalogers suggest a link to the New York Yacht Club. The plate dates from roughly 1890 to 1900, a period when yachting drew wealthy spectators and photographers to eastern harbors. It comes from the Detroit Publishing Company collection and was a 1949 gift from the State Historical Society of Colorado. The attribution rests on the style of the title and numbering rather than on a signed credit, so the photographer and the exact location remain uncertain.
