Printed in French but issued through a New York bank, this 1920 lithograph was a call to buy French government bonds. It promotes France's 5 percent National Loan, with The Equitable Trust Company of New York handling subscriptions, and the imperative "Souscrivez!" ("Subscribe!") is its clearest message. France borrowed heavily to pay for reconstruction after the First World War, and the subject headings, which mention soldiers, families and war relief, show how the loan was framed as a civic duty as well as an investment. The poster is signed L. Jonas.
