Crédit Lyonnais, a major French bank, appears on this 1918 poster beside a call to subscribe to the fourth national loan. The record also lists an eagle, a French flag, and a sword or dagger, which together give the design its martial tone. Abel Faivre, a French caricaturist known for his satirical work, signed the color lithograph. The French government raised money through a series of war loans, and banks helped sell those bonds to ordinary savers, so posters like this one tried to make lending to the war effort feel both patriotic and routine.
